Joseph B. Strauss, D.C.
A 1967 graduate of Columbia Institute of Chiropractic (now New York College), Dr. Strauss began private practice in Levittown, Pennsylvania. He went on to also serve as a professor at Pennsylvania College of Chiropractic, teaching philosophy from 1978 to 1994. He served as Editor of The Pivot Review, a chiropractic philosophical publication from 1983 to 2010, and has written and published twenty-five books on the subject of chiropractic.
In 1992 Dr. Strauss was elected a Fellow of the College of Straight Chiropractic and in 1999 was honored as Chiropractor of the Year by Sherman College of Straight Chiropractic. He was also honored as Christian Chiropractor of the Year by the Christian Chiropractic Association in 2013. He has lectured throughout the United States, Japan, England, New Zealand, Sweden and Brazil on the subject of straight chiropractic.
Dr. Strauss maintained a large private practice for over 46 years, adopting a “box on the wall” fee system in which those he served were able to simply pay what they could afford. For over 46 years, Dr. Strauss never charged a set fee for chiropractic care.
“Dr. Joe” retired in 2013 and turned over the Strauss Chiropractic Center to Dr. Judy Campanale.
The need to have ongoing chiropractic dialogue as well as a repository for straight, non-therapeutic chiropractic information fueled Dr. Strauss’ desire to make his writings and products accessible. Hence, the original website, ChiropracticOutsidetheBox.com, was born. His written and spoken words have been just a few clicks away since 2010, when Dr. Strauss’ new ideas, new thinking, new means and new methods of sharing chiropractic became widely available. Dr. Strauss's articles and books have moved to this site, for the personal education, enlightenment, and edification of chiropractors and chiropractic students alike.
Although Dr. Strauss passed away in 2023, his chiropractic message remains thought-provoking and life-changing. It was his hope that this great principle called chiropractic, which has been largely hidden from the world, would continue to come “out of the box” and be shared with everyone.
