What is Healing?

  1. I understand that this video is from 1981 and much must have changed in our thinking since then, but correct me if I’m wrong: This explanation you give in the video about the body healing itself, although perfectly true, is not the approach you’d choose nowadays, right?

In other words, saying “we accept everyone not to get anybody well but to remove the vertebral subluxation SO THE BODY CAN HEAL ITSELF…” is telling the people we have HEALING as our final objective.

    • Paulo, the video clip was 13mins of an approx. 55min video, so it is somewhat out of the context in which it was given. That said, the content, in my understanding, is as you say “perfectly true”. You raise an interesting question. Some people and chiropractors get the impression that we non-therapeutic chiropractors don’t relate to healing, health or anything medical, that we don’t accept people with medical conditions and we only relate to “correcting vertebral subluxations to enable the ii of the body to be more fully expressed”. The fact is that most people coming into the office, whether we like it or not are coming with a “medical problem” (There is no “chiropractic problem” other than a vertebral subluxation) and we need to address what we are doing in relation to what they came in for, how it relates to their medical problem (the body works better with a good nerve supply) and how it does not (it is not meant to get them well). We take care of people for VS, not medical problems…but we take care of people with medical problems if they also have VS. There is a major difference between taking care of people with VS and a medical problem in order to enable the ii of the body to work better and taking care of people with VS and a medical problem for the treatment of the medical problem or correction of the cause of the medical problem. The former is objective non-therapeutic straight chiropractic. The latter is, well, something else. Hopefully, I say it better today than I did in 1981 but the message is still the same.
