The issue of diagnosis is the 600 pound gorilla in the room. It is always dangerous. Least dangerous to most dangerous:
1. Refusing to make a diagnosis and an explanation of why.
2. Failing to make a diagnosis when one is expected.
3.Making an incorrect diagnosis.
The non therapeutic chiropractor always makes the first choice. BUT it is incumbent upon him to explain to the potential practice member why he does not.
Diagnosis is used for treatment or referral. It is no more than “naming” a condition based on symptoms. If you explain you do not do it then you do not need to do it. There are times when care other than chiropractic maybe needed. At these times if we know normal we do not need to name a deviation needing other care. I always adjusted first then if the situation needed it suggested they seek another kind of care. I know we do not chase symptoms but if they go away no diagnosis or referral is needed. Some states want to make you make a diagnosis. I this VS is going far enough for us.
Where is the room the 600lb. gorilla in and why does the diagnosis of VS inject fear in Chiropractic or Chiropractors?
Chiropractic is simple, in it’s embrace of truth & wisdom yet perplexes many. That fact does not make it any more or less effective.

The 600 pound gorilla is diagnosis in the chiropractic room. It is the medical prerequisite for any medical procedure. It is not necessary for the singular non medical chiropractic adjustment any more than a complete diagnostic workup is necessary if you have brought your car to a repair shop to have a tire changed and you and the mechanic know that is the only thing being done.
