The spine works as a unit but it is also part of the human unit. you can affect a unit by affecting the parts of a unit or you can affect the unit by affecting it as a whole. Damage the engine of a care and the entire car stops running. Drive it into a brick wall and you have the same end result. Orthopedic medicine tries to affect the whole spine by affecting its parts. Certain aspects of chiropractic try to affect the spine by affecting it as a whole. Straight chiropractic does not address the spine as a unit. It addresses the human organism as a unit and attempts to remove interferences to its innate expression. It just happens that this interference occurs at the vertebral level. TO try to affect any part of the unit be it the spine, heart, low back muscles or auditory mechanism is to deny the importance of the whole. The M.D. addresses only a part (heart, lever, etc.). The chiropractor when treating the spine as a unit is trying to address a part also, albeit a larger part than the orthopedist but still a part. The straight chiropractor is attempting to affect the whole, not in a mechanistic way, but by restoring EASE to the whole.
The M.D. affects the part to affect the part.
The mixer D.C. addresses a larger part to affect the whole.
The straight D.C. addresses the whole to affect the whole
Correction of vertebral subluxation does not affect the curve, the bone, the nervous system tot he kidney, heart or stomach. Correction of vertebral subluxation restores the innate potential to every single cell in the body. We must constantly remind ourselves of that fact or we will slip into the trap of addressing parts. It doesn’t rally matter whether the part is a sharp pain in the lower right side of the back or a structural distortion involving the entire spinal column. The intention and mental attitude must be focused on improving the quality of the entire body’s innate function because an interference in the nervous system has been removed at the vertebral level. v9n2
