Ray McPike, D.C.

In the mid-70s, as a representative assemblyman in the ICA I met and became friends with the ICA representative from Kentucky. While our personal contact was only at the ICA meetings and the annual convention in Davenport Iowa in August, every year, we often communicated by mail (long before the Internet). At the time Ray was in his mid-50s and I was in my mid-30s. Both of us loved sports and chiropractic so we often had long lunches in which we discussed our mutual loves (mostly chiropractic) and occasionally we were late getting back to the R.A. Meetings. Even as he approached age 60 Ray was in good physical shape and still refereed high school basketball games. He was a great advocate of straight chiropractic and tragically passed away after a fatal fall from a high ladder. His younger sister, Helen, had married a chiropractor named Dr. Gordon Brown and they eventually retired to a home they had built on Sherman College’s campus. Helen painted beautiful pictures of birds some of which Dr. Judy Campanale, my chiropractic associate acquired. I believe they still hang in what is now her office in Levittown. Ray, shortly before his death, when cleaning out some of his papers came across a reprint of a newspaper article and picture of his sister Helen and sent it to me. Recently I found it and would like to share it with you. The newspaper article is almost 73 years old so the quality is not the best.
