I was reading a Scripture passage this morning which read “My power is made perfect in weakness” (2 Cor.12:9). Paul (the writer) was saying that when he acknowledges his inability and relies upon God, then and only then is when he is most effective. It occurred to me “how appropriate for us chiropractors.” We all, deep down inside, realize that we do not do the healing and, in fact, do not even make the adjustment. The innate intelligence of the body does it all. But while we subconsciously know that, we often forget, especially when the PM tries to give us the credit and when we are doing our analysis and a postcheck of the innate intelligence of the body’s work in making the correction. I wonder how much taking that credit affects our effectiveness. There are two applications as I see it. First, if we know that we are merely introducing an external invasive force (a universal force) and not making an adjustment, we will be more conscientious in our care. Second, if we convey our role and the innate intelligence’s role, we will have more knowledgeable and hence better practice members. Would that we all had that attitude of humility.
Wonderful quote and humbling.
I am reminded daily that we are “fearfully & wonderfully made” and I am blessed to be a Chiro. w/ somewhat of an understanding of the Big Idea!
When I am weak He is strong. Speaking of power this would be a good time to ask the question that has been on my mind. Could you speak to the often stated quote by chiros “The power that made the body heals the body”? Is it chiropractically, philosophically sound?
Scott,
Chiropractic philosophy begins with the Major Premise. It is our start point and from OBJECTIVE OBSERVATION, chiropractic has its a priori principle #1 : A universal intelligence is in all matter and continually gives to it all its properties and actions, thus maintaining it n existence. –
– The quote “the power that made the body heals the body” is beyond the MP. Therefore, it is outside chiropractic philosophy which is based on deductive reasoning from the MP as our start point.
Hey Claude,
If I may paraphrase Pres. Wm. Clinton, that depends on how you define made. In embryology class I was impressed by how many tiny steps had to be perfectly performed, in order, to conceive. Then by how the environment had to be just right for development of the fetus. Finally the delivery process itself, all within very narrow limits for “normal” birth to occur. None of that would have been possible without innate intelligence.
Consider this as, just one man’s opinion (JOMO)
Development and production of the sperm and ovum were coordinated by 2 separate innates (individual II.), were they not? Copulation, 2 innates (species II.). Conception, (mother’s individual and sperm’s cellular II.) Development of the fetus (mother’s individual and fetal cellular II.) Gestation, (mother’s II.) Delivery, (mother’s and baby’s individual II.). Separation and beyond (baby’s II).
How mankind was made is beyond Chiropractic in my opinion but what made me, mom, dad and Innate. TPTMTB,HTB or better yet, The Intelligence That Made The Body, Heals The Body.
Steve,
No need to get too personal. Principle 21 describes very well WHAT you are talking about does it not? The intelligence that “maintains the body in active organization” heals the body… SOMETIMES… Innate intelligence is ALWAYS limited through the limitations of matter anyway (pri.24). 😉
Hey Claude,
Sorry, did not mean to get so personal. I don’t think my folks would mind being used in the example. 🙂
I don’t see “sometimes” in P.21. We can’t blame II. if the force is disturbed. Nor can we fault II. if the matter is not up to par.
Can you tell me of any other healing entity besides II. (and miracles are beyond our scope, right Joe?)?
If II. is always 100% (P.# 22) and II.’s function is to adapt force and matter(P.#23) for mutual benefit, then II. is always working. As long as there is life there is innate, or, as long as there is innate there is life.
How about this, The Intelligence That Made The Body, Heals The Body, As Long As It Is Able. This more correct/complete phrase actually invites the ChiropracTOR to explain chiropracTIC.
Again, more to the point, is there anything else capable of healing the body?
Steve,
Principle 21 is limited through principle 24. Therefore, SOMETIMES, healing takes place…. SOMETIMES it don’t. This is due to Principle 22 with “the requisite amount (100%) PROPORTIONAL to its organization” and innate intelligence adapts forces and matter for the “living thing” as long as it can do so without breaking a universal law. –
– Your “more to the point question” is about the cycle of cellular replacement (growth) pri.18. Cells are replaced at the rate of 500,000 per second. Cells die and cells are born. That’s HOW healing or lack thereof takes place. This cellular cycle ALWAYS functions according to principle 24. That is WHY the NTOSC is one WHO chooses to LACVS. PERIOD! The answer to your question is:
NO!
… and this answer is solely within the context of chiropractic philosophy. 😉
Hey Claude,
I gotcha, the process is always taking place but is not always complete due to material shortages (LOM) or communication breakdown(SUB.). 😉 😉
