Some truth and some error is like some chiropractic and some medicine… mixing the two creates a new error. I think it was Churchill who said, the truth must be hidden with a bodyguard of Lies… or maybe he said just the opposite… a lie must e hidden with a bodyguard of truths! Scienc tells us that while the sun rose today and while it rose as long as anyone can remember inductively, some day it will not rise although in all likely-hod you and I will no be around to experience it empirically
As far as this sunrise example, aren’t there principles in effect (physical laws) of P11, that logically (deductive) predict that the sun Will rise?
Physical events not only are empirically determined and inductively assumed.
My understanding that the laws, while physically and logically deduced are also “inductively assumed”, and that it would take a supernatural act to alter/superced those laws. That is what happened when Moses made the sun “stand still” for the people of Israel.
Do “supernatural act to alter/superceded those laws” and your example of the “sun standing still” fall within PERSONAL BELIEF systems?
My understanding is that they do and that they are just as valid as reason and empirical proof. Reggie allowed for that (in a personal conversation). BJ did not (in his writings) As a personal belief system. it falls outside the purview/realm of chiropractic philosophy
In wartime, truth is so precious that she should always be attended by a bodyguard of lies. Winston Churchill
Reductionist, mechanistic, outside-in science (even outside-in “chiropractic”) changes its story frequently. Thank you for the clarity we get from people like yourself, Joe.
Samuel Arbesman, author of The Half-Life of Facts demonstrates this with the field of scientometrics. He estimates you can predict that every 45 years, half of this particular sort of knowledge gets “outdated” Of course medical science tends tends to turnover at a faster rate than something like mathematics.
Part of this turnover of medical science is exacerbated by the increasing lack of objectivity in science journals. A 2014 article in The Economist stated “A rule of thumb among biotechnology venture-capitalists is that half of published research cannot be replicated. Even that may be optimistic. Last year researchers at one biotech firm, Amgen, found they could reproduce just six of 53 ‘landmark’ studies in cancer research. Earlier, a group at Bayer, a drug company, managed to repeat just a quarter of 67 similarly important papers. A leading computer scientist frets that three-quarters of papers in his subfield are bunk.”
Science has its place. However, principles and universal truths are timeless.
As I shared in my book A NEW LOOK AT CHIROPRACTIC’S BASIC SCIENCE, I understand that the triune is the very shape of the universe. Reality is a FLOW with a direction… what we call ADIO (pri1). The triune can actually allow our basic science to fully operate as one, because we are inside a FLOW instead of a prison. –
– Philosophical intuitions (hunches, thought-flashes) are almost always on some level correct. Only when we literalize them and attempt to use them from outside-in do they lose the FLOW… and the flow is where the life always is. Show me a single example of life where there is not motion, growth and adaptation. What could be known as a holographic flow has for the most part been related to a static particle human, that when sick, needed to be gotten well. –
– A universal intelligence is in ALL e/matter from quasar to quark — a reflection of the triune. –
– How do we learn to recognize and participate in this FLOW of life as chiropractors? Practice the Chiropractic objective (LACVS for a full expression of the innate FORCES of the innate intelligence of the body. PERIOD!) After your analysis, your delivery of your adjustic thrust, and your post check, drop your educated intelligence and let the law of ACTIVE organization ACT. Educated is too small to understand the quark, quasar, galaxies or the information that births and animates all existence. Such momentous truth can occasionally be CAUGHT but it is not easily TAUGHT. We relied far too much on educated and education, often time interfering with the FLOW… instead of participating full-bodied in the FLOW of life and lead by example.
I will look forward to reading your book–working on Joe’s commentaries on the green books right now (albeit slowly).
I’ve been warned by a mentor to be wary of over-complicating (turning to too much reductionist, research-focused explanations) when attempting to teach practice members about chiropractic.
There are so many ways to cloud and distract from the simple, elegant principles of chiropractic.
I like your last paragraph–should frame that whole paragraph on my office wall. Locate and correct and let go.
Since personal beliefs “fall outside the purview/realm of chiropractic philosophy”, WHY do YOU bring YOUR personal belief in one of your comments, in response to David’s post to have him comprehend chiropractic philosophy? Your teaching is OUTSIDE “the purview/realm of chiropractic philosophy”… is it not?
Claude, you wrote an entire Blue Book utilizing principles outside (established before/apart from/appropriated by BJP and RWS. The were not created/discovered by them, just acknowledged as already existing as part of your and my and most others “personal beliefs”.
May I ask “What is the difference between “some truth” and reality?”
Could that be the difference between inductive and deductive logic?
Some truth and some error is like some chiropractic and some medicine… mixing the two creates a new error. Could you be more specific Joe, since “Chiropractic is specific, or it is nothing.” BJ
I think Claude said it well, paraphrasing Reggie, who said it to me 10 years before.
