In Love Medicine and Miracles, Bernie Siegel implies that the self healing mechanism is a function of the doctor when he says we must “create caring, compassionate physicians, not technicians”. Perhaps they (the m.d.’s) must do that but people must learn to live their own lives. It is just as wrong to depend upon a physician’s compassion for health as it is to depend upon his medication (although probably not as dangerous).
