Late on a quiet Thanksgiving eve, before checking each other’s spine, Claude and I were discussing (very animatedly and excitedly) a concept about coordinated communication between the innate intelligence of the body and the organ’s tissues and cells. A practice member walked in the office. He was fascinated by our waiting room discussion. When I finally took him back to check his spine, I explained a little more what we were discussing and drew the analogy to his work as a mailman, carrying the communication of information from one place to another. A few minutes later after resuming our discussion another PM walked in who worked for AMTRAK. His job was to coordinate the movement of railroad trains along the entire east coast. Again, he understood what we do as chiropractors, i.e., allow for the coordinated travel of information to be conveyed from one place to another (brain cell to tissue cell). He also seemed to want to listen to our conversation. Both understood and could relate to the chiropractic objective and our discussion. Later (after Claude left to contemplate the error of his thinking :), I began to think; “why do chiropractors believe we need to talk about stiff necks and painful backs?” Probably because we think the idea of vertebral subluxation interfering with the communication system of the intelligence of body is too difficult a concept for the average person to grasp.” What fools we chiropractors be!
What fools we chiropractors be, and what a waste of a degree, when we neglect philosophy, and sound and act like the MD.
Ol’ BJ with his PhC., did say and write he did foresee, if we took this not seriously, soon we’d be them and they’d be we.
I believe Steve has a new “rap’ tune on his hands! Maybe a 2nd career
Hey Bob,
No thanks, I’ll keep my day job. Joe started it with his Shakespearean quote.
We chiropractors do not need to talk about stiff necks & bad backs, but if we are going to get the attention of the person who came into the office with their complaint bringing them in the door, it behooves us to LISTEN TO THEIR stiff neck & bad back complaint. Then we can explain the beauty of the healing process that happens from the inside out.
Joe, you did not mention how long those 2 people were PM’s in your office that so readily accepted the “coordinated travel of information idea”.
I have seen it lived out that people do not care how much you know, but how much you care.
