Instinct-an impulse without reason. But the innate intelligence of the body has reasoning ability in the sense that it will always “choose” to do what is best for the organism, most conservative, and then do it within the limitations of the matter with which it ha to work. Sometimes it may appear to be instinctive, at other times it would appear to go against instinct. Most of the time it is what is best for the body. But if instinct is programmed into the matter, into the genetic material, then due to limitations of matter, it will sometimes be wrong. D.D. and B.J. ascribed everything to either innate or educated intelligence. Therefore they said that instinct was educated intelligence when it made a mistake and innate intelligence when it was right. (although earlier, D. D said that it was innate intelligence that had not yet learned. We know that is wrong.) They just did not yet fully understand genetics. Can the innate intelligence overcome limitations of matter. Apparently often it can, depending upon the limitation, especially if the limitation does not involve a vital organ. Example: often when we eat something that our body does not want, it just passes it on through, If it cannot do that, it may vomit it up.
I don’t believe your definition of instinct is incorrect
in·stinct
an innate, typically fixed pattern of behavior in animals in response to certain stimuli.
NOT an Impulse, in the chiropractic definition

OK I’m having some problems with this post. Instinct is an impulse without CONSCIOUS reason. There is always a reason for suckling, learning to stand, self defense or protecting the offspring. If instinct is the drive of the sea turtle (thanx Claude) to return to it’s nesting place, it has no choice. For it’s species survival it can it will it must. Since all of that species do it and it is pro-survival, can’t we safely assume it is innately controlled instinct?
Joe, you and Claude tell us innate intelligence is the Law of Organization. Why would Innate intelligence as a law have or need reasoning, laws do not reason? Reasoning is a human attribute, is it not, an anthropomorphic holdover from the days of personification? If ii can not learn, or more correctly does not need to learn, there are no decisions to be made. ( Side question : Wouldn’t a “learning” innate be congruent with evolution)
DD and BJ did not say ii made good decisions and educated made bad ones. They said ii made all decisions and when we are subluxation free, educated carried out the correct action. When we are subluxated, mental impulses between ii and ei are inefficiently transmitted and less than optimal results occur. Educated intelligence is a product of matter and subject to LOM, further limited by Sux.. Bad learning can also lead to bad habits and bad decisions, exemplifying BJ’s disdain for formal education.
