Humility is an Educated Function

We are not born with humility, because the innate intelligence of the body is designed to be selfish. The baby lets everyone know when he is hungry and has no compunction about relieving himself or herself anytime, anywhere. That is normal and natural because other than through its innate intelligence a baby has no other way to express needs.  Unfortunately, we tend to educatedly learn what is innately understood and should be confined to innate function. When we become adults, selfishness is actually arrogance. Sometime before adulthood  it must be educatedly replaced by humility.

  1. Thank you Joe for this simple, yet profound post. Have you read “Humility” by Andrew Murray? I have to read it often. Thankfully, we serve a gracious God.

  2. Humility is counter-intuitive. It’s about being WHO we choose to be in relationship with our purpose in life. For us chiropractors, it’s about WHO we choose to be in relationship with the innate intelligence of the body. It’s about choosing to “mind our own business” and choosing to let the innate intelligence of the body “mind its business”.
