D.D.'s Discovery

Was the discovery of chiropractic in 1895 the last gasp of the metaphysical influence upon science or was it the rebirth of a new science in which metaphysical concepts would play a foundational role in any science? While the outside-in naturalistic model would like it to be the latter, there is much argument from history that indicates the former. Bill Decken in his well-written paper titled “The Metaphysical Basis of Science Education and its Relevance to Chiropracic” says that while Darwinianism does not reach the level of thesitic evolution neither does it negate the beginning of non-life existence apart from metaphysical activity. In other words as one of my african students once put it, “Who banged the Bang?” So, evolution, predating chiropractic by some 59 years and still being taught as science has a metaphysical foundation. Other areas of science incoporate metaphysical concepts to one degree or another.Chaos theory, psychology, psychiatry and quantum healing to name a few.

  1. Hey Joe,
Is it not possible the two have always existed, together? Like + and -, yin and yang, inside and outside, one would not exist without the other. Physical and metaphysical each is identified by it’s dissimilarity with the other. Throughout history the pendulum swings back and forth, back and forth. Intelligence is nothing without matter, matter is nothing without intelligence.
